So where have all the Blue Tits gone?

At this time of the year I often have friends asking me where all of the Blue Tits have gone.

There were throngs of them just a couple of months ago, but now visitors to the bird table fat balls are a rarity. These active little birds seem to have vanished into thin air.

The fact is that they are busy feeding their families, and Blue Tit chicks cannot handle much of the normal foods that we put out onto our bird tables – they need grubs and insects in soft juicy mouthfuls! To feed the youngsters the parent birds spend most of the day inspecting the undersides of plant leaves and rushing back to the nest with wriggling beaks.

BUT, just because the adults are busy with the young does not mean that you should stop feeding on the bird tables – the adults need high protein food intake in order to keep up with their busy lives – and they will soon be back in even greater numbers as the young progress to the delights of the TWOOTZ peanuts and fat balls.
