Peanuts are an ideal food source that will appeal to a wide range of wild birds throughout the year due to their high content of natural oils, protein, essential vitamins and minerals. Although peanuts are not a naturally occurring foodstuff for native birds, most species will readily accept them when offered and are ideal to help birds through harsh or demanding times.
The whole peanuts should ideally be fed from a peanut feeder, but they can be fed from bird tables and the ground, however, during the breeding season we recommend only feeding the split or broken peanuts to reduce the risk of a choking hazard for hatchlings and young birds.
Peanuts can be contaminated by a fungus which produces a poison known as aflatoxin which is harmful to birds. Twootz.com select only peanuts which fall below the maximum permitted levels in law for aflatoxin to ensure the safety of wild birds.

I prefer the peanut pieces rather than the chopped ones as there was more wasted dusty amounts but with the halves and whole peanuts there is less waste. I do have to chop the whole ones a bit myself for tiny beaks and fledglins to save any choking but the tits love them as well as those unwanted 'pesky' pigeons (unfortunately).
