These Economy Grade Peanuts are smaller and more dry/shrivelled than our Standard Peanuts, hence the lower retail price. Please refer to the product photos for reference.
Peanuts are an ideal food source that will appeal to a wide range of wild birds throughout the year due to their high content of natural oils, protein, essential vitamins and minerals. Although peanuts are not a naturally occurring foodstuff for native birds, most species will readily accept them when offered and are ideal to help birds through harsh or demanding times.
Peanuts should ideally be fed from a peanut feeder, but they can be fed from bird tables and the ground, however, during the breeding season we recommend only feeding the split or broken peanuts to reduce the risk of a choking hazard for hatchlings and young birds.
Peanuts can be contaminated by a fungus which produces a poison known as aflatoxin which is harmful to birds. Twootz.com select only peanuts which fall below the maximum permitted levels in law for aflatoxin to ensure the safety of wild birds, though these peanuts do appear to be more wrinkly than our Standard Peanuts.
