Protecting your bird food from the wind and rain is a sensible precaution. Recent high winds meant that seed mix scattered on the table tops vanish in the direction of Europe at high speed!

Peanuts and Fat Balls are not such a problem, but they are not to all bird’s tastes – also rain does not affect these feeds as much as the seed mixes.

I’ve been experimenting with adapting existing seed feeders using large plastic water bottles – with no great success – the idea was good – the skill was not – someone out there must have solved this one so feel free to let the folk at TWOOTZ know of your successes!

The nearest that I found commercially did in fact come from TWOOTZ a couple of years ago – it consisted of the cage base with a plastic roof over it – the roof could be adjusted to offer various levels of protection both to the seed and the size of the birds – I found its replacement on the website where it is described as being a Squirrel Proof Dome Feeder – I think that I’ll invest in a couple as they are on sale for just over £12 each – much cheaper than re-fixing my fingers after my latest attack on a plastic bottle with a Stanley knife!
